Dr. Vandana Shiva, an Indian scholar and champion of women’s rights and biodiversity, is coming to Bellingham. She will be speaking at Western Washington University‘s Performing Arts Center (PAC) on February 25th.
An anchor in the ecofeminist movement, Dr. Shiva has long argued for the wisdom of many traditional Indian agricultural practices. She is probably best known for her opposition to corporate patents on plant varieties and seeds.
Her talk is sure to introduce you to both new ideas and a greater understanding of the challenges faced by modern India and how they are intertwined with the American debates about food labeling and GMOs.
Tickets are $3 for students and $12 for the general public.
