Tyler Matheis’ first career was in cabinet making. Now he makes longboards out of reclaimed wood. And sometimes sunglasses.
Blackbird longboards are made of either bamboo or maple (with occasional bits of fir, or walnut added for flair). The Seattle Times described them as “elegant boards” with a “1960s retro flair.”
Handmade boards mean that each one is unique. But they come in seven different shapes, each suited to a different kind of riding style. Blackbird makes some classic board shapes—like the NW pintail—and some unique ones too.
In the effort to use every bit of the wood which they reclaim, Blackbird has also ventured into wood sunglasses and ping pong paddles. Check out this Bellingham-based company at BlackbirdLongboards.com.
