What if everyone in the whole community read the same book together. In Bellingham, that happens every year thanks to Whatcom Reads.
Here’s how it works: each year the governing board selects a book and generous gifts from the Whatcom County Library Foundation, Friends of the Bellingham Public Library, Village Books, and other local businesses are used to stage a series of events related to the theme of the event. The series culminates with a free-of-charge presentation by the author of the selected book.
This year, Ruth Ozeki’s novel A Tale for the Time Being is the featured book. Several community events are planned throughout the next few months including discussion groups, journaling workshops, and interviews with Ozeki herself. Most notably, she is coming to the main stage at Mount Baker Theatre on March 4th.
