Last year the City of Bellingham and Port of Bellingham announced that they would jointly fund a signature event, and called for proposals. The winning idea came from Bornstein Seafoods—a seafood festival that would showcase the sea-borne charm of our coastal city.
On September 30, we’ll all get to see (and taste!) that idea for ourselves.
SeaFeast will begin on Friday evening with poetry, stories, music, and dance at Boundary Bay Brewery & Honey Moon Mead Bar. Then on Saturday (October 1), Squalicum Harbor and Zuanich Point Park will be packed with festivities like oyster shucking, fishermen racing in survival suits, tours of the commercial fishing fleet, and many other vendors. The Salmon BBQ Grilling Contest is likely to be a highlight.
Financial support from the city and the port gives this event the chance to open with a bang in its first year. Expect to see lots of visitors in Bellingham enjoying the festivities. The stated goal is to bring 10,000 guests to town.
