UPDATE: Using the feedback created by the route-building game mentioned in this article, the WTA has created a new service plan and they’d love to know what you think about it.
The Whatcom Transportation Authority—WTA for short—operates a fleet of busses to provide public transit services in Bellingham. It boasts the second-highest ridership numbers of any such system in the state of Washington.
The WTA Board of Directors is in the midst of updating its strategic plan, and they are trying to decide how to grow.
Should the WTA add more service to small, rural cities?
Or add more weekend service?
Or begin serving the airport?
Or convert more routes into GO routes?
These are the kinds of questions being discussed. With limited resources to invest, and lots of important priorities, the WTA would like you input so it published a game in which you can practice juggling these priorities, and your choices will inform the WTA board as they wrestle with these decisions in real-life.
